South African choir off to Italy and Austria for fabulous bespoke music tour

A 35-strong choir comprising girls aged 13-17 from Johannesburg are off to Vienna, Salzburg and Venice next month for a wonderful three-centre tour, which has been entirely tailored to this very unique group.

Performing many traditional African songs, the choir and musicians will perform in Vienna’s church in Reindorf, a church affiliated to FOSA (Friends of South Africa), as well as in the protestant church in Bad Ischl and the concert hall in Bad Hofgastein.

Accompanying the girls will be an assortment of instruments including piano, violin, clarinet and djembe drums.

In addition to their concert programme, the itinerary for their tour has been designed to be culturally enriching and the group will take in as much European music, art and history as possible.

In Vienna, they will visit the Belvedere Palace Baroque, which houses art from the Middle Ages to today and also see Stephen’s Cathedral, the House of Music and Schönbrunn Palace. While in Salzburg they will see the Hohensalzburg Fortress, take a boat tour to Strobl, see the Hellbrunn Palace and Trick Water Gardens and visit the Salt mines in Hallein.

When in Venice, their programme will include the Doge’s Palace, the Scrovegni Chapel and Palazzo Zuckerman, a museum full of art and artifacts from everyday life spanning several centuries. They’ll also take a cruise on the Burchiello along the Brenta River and enjoy day trips to Treviso and Verona.
