“I have always had a love of music and trained as a dancer in ballet, contemporary and jazz until I was 18. At the age of 10 I was introduced to the steelpan and fell in love with the instrument. I’m not a trained musician but I am passionate and continue to learn. Steelpan is so diverse and I just love the fact that people don’t expect you to be able to play ‘Hot, hot hot’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Khachaturian’s ‘Lezginka’ all in one set!
“My first music tour was to Australia as part of a youth music exchange and I have so many lasting memories and friendships as a result. I recently had the great privilege to be involved with my band in recording the soundtrack at Abbey Road Studios to the English Magic Exhibition for the Venice Biennale. In 2014 I ‘guested’ with another band and took part in the UK Steelband Panorama Championships which is a highlight of the steelband calendar - two weeks of intense rehearsal with 70 players culminated in one of the most exciting events of my life. It’s my ambition to one day play in the Trinidad Panorama.”
