'An incredible week in the snow!' a student's tale!

It’s lovely to hear our students enjoyed their ski trip with us, but even better when they write about it!

Here’s what Joshua Laggah-Adaakwa and Olivia Webb from a school in London wrote about their Easter school ski trip to Radstadt in the Sportwelt Amadé region of Austria.

“At the end of March, thirty three students and 4 teachers boarded our coach to Austria for the 2017 Ski Tour. We had an incredible week in the snow, filled with fun and laughter.

“After an exhausting coach journey, we finally arrived at the Wenghof Youth Hostel and settled into our rooms. Everyone fell asleep almost immediately and the next day we were woken up to Miss O’Hana playing her famous ski song ‘Bomba’. We met our instructors - Vicki, Marisa and Jacob - clicked into our ski boots and soon after fell over … quite a few times.

“By the end of the first day, legs aching and weird goggle tan lines starting to appear, we got on the coach back to Wenghof. As always, we awarded a frog hat and duck hat to someone who did something helpful and someone who did something exceptionally embarrassing. After the stylish hats were given out, we went bowling to finish off the first day.

“The following day, we had another challenging skiing lesson on a difficult slope full of many twists and turns. The students were learning very quickly, with some faster than others. The progression was evident from only a day of skiing. As another day of skiing was over, the students came home to a delicious meal made by the Wenghof catering staff.

“We then went to one of the most exhilarating swimming pools in Austria with an outdoor whirlpool, a wave machine and a vertical-drop slide. After one and a half hours of fun all the students were exhausted and ready for bed.

“Over the week we did many more activities such as watching a crazy (and quite violent) ice hockey match and laughed at the numerous amount of videos of everyone falling over (including the teachers).

“Everyone quickly picked up the skill of skiing and the group was pacing it down some of the hardest slopes in the resort within just three lessons; twisting and turning down the mountain, through the clouds, and back up again on the ski lifts.

“On the Thursday, everyone took part in a race and the fastest three were awarded medals. As the week came to an end, we waved goodbye to our instructors, handed over our heavy yet very stylish skis, boots and helmets, loaded the coach with our barely closed suitcases and headed back to London.

“Despite the fun, we were not able to escape the dangerous art of skiing injury free, as on the second-to-last day there were a few injuries including Joshua, who collided with another student and suffered a knock to the head (he was wearing a helmet!).

“He had to go to hospital for X-rays whilst everybody else went shopping! Thankfully he did not suffer from any serious injuries and he was back on the slopes early the next morning, skiing better than ever.

“It was great fun, thank you to everybody who was involved and we hope to see more of you next year!”
