It can be the young and vibrant university city of Leipzig with its famous Gewandhaus Orchestra, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s house, the Thomaner church (Bach’s heritage) and numerous art galleries. But it is also steeped in the history of the reunification of Germany and offers unique culture and baroque beauty such as the city of Dresden with its Semper Opera, located along the river of Elbe. It is also famous for having many historical castles including the Escape Castle Colditz and numerous spa towns. In the south of the region, there is an area known as the music valley because it has around 100 workshops and factories where instruments are created. Guided visits can be arranged to some of these workshops so you can see the traditional crafts behind musical instrument making.
Saxony offers wonderful opportunities for a mix of music tour groups. There are lovely bandstands in parks and spa towns as well as churches and cathedrals to perform in.

The St. Thomas Church is one of two houses of worship in Leipzig’s city centre. Home of the St. Thomas Boys Choir and a place of musical creativity, it is also the final resting place of the famous St. Thomas Cantor, Johann Sebastian Bach.
Moritzburg has become famous for its horse breeding and carp farming as well as through the activities of artist Käthe Kollwitz. In winter 1972/1973, the Baroque castle was the festive backdrop for “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”, one of the most popular German fairy-tale movies.
The cities of Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz have a range of 2-5 star hotels that are centrally located as well as many new and modern youth hostels. There are many fantastic youth hostels in the region between the cities which are ideal for groups to visit places all around. Experience the adventure of staying in the Escape Castle Colditz as a large part of it is now converted into a modern youth hostel.
