A unique choice for a music tour

Situated in a unique and somewhat historically precarious position between Latin, Germanic and Slavic lands, Friuli Venezia Giulia and its capital Trieste is unlike any other region and city in the world. It is truly one of the most underrated and unfairly overlooked places not only in Italy, but in all of Europe and is a unique choice for a music tour. While Rome, Florence and nearby Venice have been fixtures on the proverbial tourist map for centuries, in terms of cuisine, culture, castles and romance, Trieste is second to none. Embraced by green hills on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other, with the snow-capped Dolomites piercing the horizon to the north, no region or city can honestly claim to have a more majestic setting.

Morning visit to Grado and evening concert in the courtyard of Miramare Castle.

Day 3

Morning visit to Gorizia Afternoon visit to Trieste and evening concert in Piazza dell’Unita’ d’Italia (Trieste).

Day 4

Day excursion to Venice and final concert in Villa Foscarini Rossi (Dolo).

Day 5

Morning free in resort followed afternoon departure.

Miramare Castle

Visit Grado, a working fishing port with a lovely historic town centre. It is also, and predominantly, a major tourist resort with miles of highly-equipped sandy beaches. For years this area belonged to the Austro-Hungarian empire, and during that time Grado was developed as a spa resort. The town is still very popular with Austrian visitors.

Visit Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia and the Canale Grande (1756), a long harbour formerly used by sailing ships, and now filled with small boats. Cafés line the wide walkways at either side and behind them stand beautifully maintained buildings. The far end of the canal is punctuated by Trieste's largest church, the Neoclassical Sant'Antonio, built in 1849 and to the right is the Serbian Orthodox church of San Spiridione. Go to the top of “Faro della Vittoria” (Lighthouse of Victory), one of the most famous landmarks in Trieste where you can enjoy spectacular views of the city.

Visitors to Italy tend to skip Gorizia. Tucked away at the northeast edge of the country on the border with Slovenia, this small city tends to get bypassed on the way to Trieste or Slovenia. It is situated in the verdant Isonzo river valley with Slovenia just to the east, marked by steep green hills. Heading upriver towards the Julian Alps, mountains rise precipitously from both banks. It was here that the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies fought the dozen Battles of Isonzo in World War I and you can visit the battlefield here.

A day trip to Venice is a must! A city in north-eastern Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, it is located in the marshy Venetian Lagoon which stretches along the shoreline. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture, and its artwork. The city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.

About six miles from Triste you will find this white fairy-tale palace, which was built for Archduke Maximilian of Austria and his wife Charlotte in 1855-60, before they went off to (briefly) become emperor and empress of Mexico. It stands above the sea, with views artfully framed by almost every window in its sumptuous rooms. Along with the interior, tour the gardens in the park, which is now protected as the Parco Marino di Miramare, for even more magnificent views over the Adriatic.

Our music tour groups can stay at The Hotel Argentina in the picturesque city of Grado, just 100 meters from the sea, ten minutes walk from the city centre and 300 meters from the spa. A hotel that is within walking distance of well-equipped beaches, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, and by myriad sports activities available in the surrounding areas. Surrounded by a lovely garden, the hotel offers a welcoming, comfortable interior and staff are always courteous and helpful.

Alternatively , you can stay at Hotel I Cacciatori, situated in a strategic position in the Friuli Venezia-Giulia region, close to Venice, Slovenia and Croatia, only four kilometres from the Airport of Trieste, making it easy for groups who wish to fly here. The Hotel is 200 metres from the famous Sanctuary of Redipuglia, the historic monument where thousands of World War I victims rest in peace. A comfortable hotel with plenty of entertainnatiment, there are also many attractions nearby, such as Gorizia, Udine and Trieste.. Take a swim in the open-air swimming-pool, enjoy free of charge wi-fi internet access, play a five-a-side football, or simply relax in the garden of the hotel.

We accept any group as long as they are used to performing together as an ensemble, even if only to their fellow students and parents. We always ask for a recent recording of your group and we have range of venues on offer that will welcome beginner groups as well as experienced ensembles.

We understand that when you go on a music tour where you stay is really important. All hotels and hostels we use are suitable for music ensembles with many offering rehearsal space and instrument storage. Rooms generally en-suite.

You should book your tour between 8-18 months in advance. This will give us time to find the best possible venues for your tour and you will have ample time for fundraising should you need to do so.
