Southwark Mayor presents award to our Proud to Perform winners

On Saturday, Southwark’s Deputy Mayor Councillor Sunil Chopra presented Southwark Children’s Brass Band with our Proud to Perform award.

He presented them with the certificate after they had performed at the Nunhead Cemetery Open Day.

The award is a fully funded concert tour to Paris in 2015. Club Europe Senior Account Manager Hannah Bastick, who has led the initiative, spoke briefly before the presentation about the project.

Southwark was one of many applicants for the funding. “The students are very excited at the prospect of travelling and playing in Paris,” said Patty Harper, a Trustee of the band’s charity.

“A lot of our students are from less well-off families and have very few opportunities like this. The tour will give them a sense of what is achievable with hard work and practice and develop their performance skills, stamina and their musicality.”
