The Road to the Ironman - 2

“Last weekend I completed the 30-mile Weald Challenge Ultra, near Ashdown Forest in Kent as part of my ongoing training for the Ironman.

“As usual the first hour was the hardest and what goes through your mind is ‘if it’s going to be this hard, how I am ever going to get to the end, nevermind 6 hours!’. Getting to the half way point as any runner will tell you is a milestone.

From then on you start to count down and it all seems achievable, sometimes just a few kilometres after you were thinking it wasn’t! From that point you know you won’t have to run as much as you have already and the end is in sight.

“This race was quite hilly, which – strange though it may sound – is actually what I prefer. It’s only really when running the hills that I totally lose myself in the run and have to concentrate 100 per cent on what I’m doing. They’re also a good excuse to run slower and even walk, which you feel you shouldn’t really do on the flat..

“It was interesting to see lots of runners with a Go Pro camera on their heads filming themselves. I noticed lots of people with Go Pros on the slopes during this year’s ski season.

“A couple of years ago, we sent a film maker out to Austria to film our school ski trip groups. You can watch the film he made here. You’ll find a lot of other short films on our website. Prizes for seeing how many you find!

“We’d love to see any footage you have taken of your school’s ski trip. Or if you have some good photos of you students you may like to enter our ‘Snap Happy Photo Competition’ where we’re giving away an i-pad mini to the winner.”
