What Happens to Ski Resorts in Summer?

When you’re on your school ski trip, do you ever wonder what life is like in resort in the summer? On a recent trip to Austria, our ski team spent some time finding out.

We had to squeeze in our visits around the haymaking schedule as farmers mow the grass, ready to dry and store for their beautiful cows in winter.

The sound of rushing water can be heard everywhere. Streams are swollen with melted snow and it is all stored carefully for snow cannons to use when temperatures fall below 0.

Our hotel owners are great cooks and fans of local foodie traditions. One such local dish we spotted being made is Graukäse, a healthy cheese made from milk whey.

Hordes of cyclists in Saalbach were hurtling down the slopes or pushing steadily up them. Hot work but well worth the adrenalin rush and breathtaking views.

Skiers keep on skiing

And some are so dedicated they just follow the snow across the globe. Andi (Greenorange ski school) had just finished training on the Kaprun glacier and was heading off to New Zealand for six weeks. You can’t get more dedicated to skiing than that!
