This year saw our first school ski trip to the States, specifically Sunday River in New England. Our school group stayed at the Sunday River Youth Lodge where they enjoyed relaxing in their dedicated wing of dormitories, lounge and dining area.
The accommodation was a short bus transfer away from the South Ridge base lodge at the bottom of the slopes. This is a one-stop shop with a food court, ski hire, ski school and medical centre all rolled into one. From there, it is a short ride up the gondola into the wide-open terrain of Sunday River, which boasts 8 different peaks and 135 runs of skiing. The weather was fantastic all week but lots of snow remained on the ground, proving that the US is also a good option for Easter skiing.
The ski school got full marks from the school; “Instructors were super friendly and supportive to all students” and Heath, our rep, “they did a great job with the kids, especially moving them between groups as their skills improved. Many of the kids were skiing black diamond trails (advanced) after starting in green trails (beginner) at the beginning of the week!”
A full evening programme including broomball (which can be roughly translated as American indoor curling!), snow-tubing and a games night was topped off by dinner in a local diner in the historic town of Bethel.
“The food proportions were huge, students definitely weren’t wanting for food.”
What made this trip unique was the last day in Boston. The group were able to spend time in the city centre with a whistle-stop amphibious Duck Tour; a visit to the famous New England aquarium and time to browse the shops and market stalls on the historic and atmospheric Boston Wharf.
We’re so glad the trip went well and look forward to welcoming many other schools to the States. For more information about our ski trips in the US, see: https://club-europe.co.uk/school-ski-trips/usa-school-ski-trips/
