A creative centre for famous painters
At the turn of the 16th century, art in Germany was still closely bound with the Church and its iconography. The wealth of Augsburg attracted artists seeking patrons and rapidly became a creative centre for famous painters, sculptors and musicians the most notable of which is Holbein. As a result Rococo architecture became so prevalent that it became known as “Augsburg style” throughout Germany.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1
Travel to Munich by air and transfer to Augsburg by coach. Spend the evening sightseeing and experience the wonderful renaissance architecture.
Day 2
After Breakfast spend the day exploring the State Gallery of Bavaria, which is home to works by Dürer, Holbein and Cranach.
Day 3
Depart your accommodation after breakfast and travel to Munich where you can visit the Pinakothek Art Museum and The Residenz Museum.
Day 4
Spend the morning with a visit to Augsburg Cathedral and after lunch there’s an opportunity to sketch one of the magnificent Renaissance fountains.
Day 5
Check out of your accommodation and transfer to the airport for your return flight.

The southern clerestory has five stained glass windows dated to the late 11th early 12th centuries, the oldest in Germany. The nave pillars have four paintings of the life of Mary, executed by Hans Holbein the Elder in 1493.

Three magnificent fountains of Augsburg that were erected on the occasion of the city's 1600 anniversary represent the three estates of the free imperial town: the masters (Augustus fountain), the merchants (Mercurius fountain) and the craftsmen (Hercules fountain).
The Goldener Saal, or Golden Hall, is one of the most important cultural monuments of the late German Renaissance.
The residential and business house of Jakob Fugger was built in the architectural style of the Italian Renaissance.

Once your student travel tour is booked, it is safely in our hands. We will only ask for you assistance in understanding your specific requirements and you will be responsible for ensuring that the dates on our checklist are adhered to. During the process, we will also ask you to provide accurate student and teacher name, passport and dietary requirement details where appropriate.
