Supporting all STEM subjects, this is a once-in-a-lifetime six-day (or more) educational tour to Florida’s space coast. During their trip, students will learn about the essentials of spaceflight, work together to solve challenges, design their own mission patches or space habitats, and discover the wide range of opportunities available to them in the space sector. Earning their astronaut wings on completion of the programme, students will be immersed in the past, present, and future of spaceflight. The trip includes a guided trip to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, where they will walk beneath a Saturn V Moon rocket, strap in for the Space Shuttle Launch Experience, hear from a retired NASA Astronaut, and explore the future of commercial space.
Day one
Arrive in Florida, hotel check-in and orientation, group meal
Day two
First day of the SpaceWise Academy, with hands-on activities, expert talks, and an introduction to rocketry as the group splits into crews to build their rockets and design their mission patches. Dinner at a local restaurant which has hosted many astronauts ahead of big launches.
Day three
Go from concept to reality with a guided tour of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to marvel at the enormity of the Saturn V Moon rocket, see one of the three remaining space shuttles, and walk under a used SpaceX booster.
Day four
SpaceWise Academy continues with space engineering challenges, an overview of international space missions and the future of commercial space, and considers the wide range of careers in the space sector. Crews will finish building their rockets and packing the parachutes ahead of launch day. Let off a bit of steam on the beach and visit to Ron Jons - the largest surf shop in the world - before dinner in the port – perhaps watching a rocket booster come in!
Day five
No trip to Florida is complete without a trip to the Magic Kingdom, get your mouse-ears on and enjoy a day at the world’s most famous theme park, Walt Disney World. (Additional days at Universal or other theme parks can be accommodated).
Day six
It’s time to get in touch with nature and the group can explore the everglades on an airboat tour, or take a tree-top trek at the Brevard zoo, learn about the local environment and important conservation efforts on the space coast.
Day seven
The countdown to launch begins and we travel to a special launch site where students get to press the button and watch their rockets soar off the rocket pad. After a successful launch they graduate from the SpaceWise Academy, presented with certificates and ‘future astronaut’ wings. Then there’s just time for a final bit of shopping and lunch before heading to the airport to begin the trip home.
In our interactive sessions, students will learn about:
In small "space crews" teams, they will:
Upon graduation, students will receive a certificate of completion and their own set of "Astronaut Trainee Wings".
.
Stay in a hotel in Cape Canaveral, just minutes from Port Canaveral, SpaceX, NASA, and the Kennedy Space Center.
Once your student travel tour is booked, it is safely in our hands. We will only ask for you assistance in understanding your specific requirements and you will be responsible for ensuring that the dates on our checklist are adhered to. During the process, we will also ask you to provide accurate student and teacher name, passport and dietary requirement details where appropriate.
Yes, there are many advantages to this. One is that greater numbers sign up which means a lower tour price per student. Another is that a diverse (two-subject) itinerary can broaden the horizons of both ‘groups’ though, of course, we can create separate agendas for each if preferred.
Yes. We include a comprehensive insurance package in every tour unless instructed otherwise. We can provide you with the details.
