There is no better way of bringing the history textbooks to life than a visit to the battlefields of the Ypres Salient. Preserved trenches, museums and cemeteries always provide an incredibly thought-provoking and stimulating experience for students.
Day 1
Travel to Brussels by air, transfer to your accommodation in Ypres. Time to explore the local area.
Day 2
Enjoy a morning visit to In Flanders Fields Museum, followed by lunch in Ypres and a guided Battlefields tour. In the evening enjoy a Guided Walk of Remembrance at the Peace Village.
Day 3
Spend your day visiting various memorials and museums close to Ypres – Hooge Crater, Tyne Cot and Talbot House. After an early dinner in the town centre, walk to the Menin Gate to watch the moving Last Post Ceremony.
Day 4
A day trip to Brussels will allow your students to see more of the country they are visiting. Various landmarks can be visited, such as the Manneken Pis and the Grand Place.
Day 5
A day in Bruges to include a visit to a chocolate shop, a cruise on the canal and a cycled guided visit of the town in the afternoon.
Day 6
Enjoy a day at a Theme Park. Entrance to Bellewaerde Park is included – with six themed lands, animals and many rides, your day will be memorable and exciting.
Day 7
Enjoy a day spent in the Ypres region, with visits to Langemark German Cemetery, Paaschendale Memorial Museum and Hill 60 giving your students a different perspective of WWI.
Day 8
Check out of your accommodation and transfer to Brussels Airport for your return flight.
Tynecot is the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world, with almost 12,000 Commonwealth soldiers buried here. Langemark is a massive German cemetery with over 40,000 German soldiers lying here, almost half of them in a massed grave.
This trench museum was started in 1919 by the grandfather of the present owner, who secured a section of the second line trench.
Our guide organises inspiring and thought-provoking tours in the battlefields across the area, often concentrating on the smaller ones and thereby engaging your students with powerful and intimate stories of those who are buried there. Our guide will also be able to trace family members who fought and fell on the battlefields in advance of your tour.

The ceremony takes place at this famous gate in the city of Ypres every day of the year at 8pm.
