If you’re looking for a short rehearsal tour for your ensemble, possibly culminating with a performance, we have 13 beautiful rural locations for you to choose from.
Each are set in their own grounds and offer wonderful rehearsal and living facilities. A rehearsal tour to one of these centres will also include the chance to explore the area and make the most of being in these lovely parts of the country.
Below we feature four of these centres and what they can offer your ensemble.
Please contact us if you’d like to know more.
Set in the quintessentially English countryside of the Dedham Vale in Suffolk on the banks of the River Stour, Flatford Mil is set in its own woodland.
You will be based in internationally important buildings such as Willy Lotts’ House, (built in the 1500’s and made famous by John Constable’s ‘Haywain’ painting), at Valley Farm (a medieval great hall built in the 1450’s) and at the Mill itself that was owned and renovated by the Constable family in the 1700’s.
Performance opportunity: Perform in the bandstands in the beautiful grounds of a nearby castle or abbey; in churches in Long Melford or Needham Market; or at a fort at the mouth of the River Orwell.
Excursions programme: Visit the historic Bridge Cottage, the location for many of John Constable’s works; take a stroll around the famous university city of Cambridge; spend an afternoon on the beach; or make the most of being near the famous Aldeburgh Music Festival.
Located 300m up the south facing slope of Blencathra in the Lake District National Park, Blencathra offers spectacular views across Keswick, Helvellyn and Skiddaw. It is a fully off grid, residential centre that runs entirely off renewable energy.
Performing opportunities: Perform in the bandstand at Grange-over-Sands. Surrounded by seating, this bandstand has an unusual zinc pagoda roof and ornamental ironwork and is Park Road Garden's central feature.
Excursions programme: The magnificent Lake District is on your doorstep. Visit the beautiful Derwentwater, Kirkstone Pass, Buttermere Lake and more; watch the magical birds of prey display at the Lake District Wildlife Park, a 24-acre parkland with over 100 species; or enjoy a bit of shopping at Keswick’s outdoor market.
Margam Discovery Centre lies within the beautiful Margam Park, an 850-acre country estate nestling on the narrow coastal plain and southern slopes of Mynydd Margam. The centre offers an extensive range of on- and off-site activities, a common room and shop. The surrounding area offers a range of ecosystems from freshwater ponds and streams to mixed woodland and grassland. There is a large herd of deer, and it’s also one of Wales’ richest bat locations.
Performing opportunities: Perform in a church in Oystermouth; or in a church or popular hall in Swansea.
Excursions programme: Visit Margram Country Park, an 850-acre park with a castle, orangery, gardens, narrow-gauge railway and rare breeds farm trail; enjoy a trip to the Baked Bean Museum of Excellence, dedicated to all baked bean devotees!; or spend an afternoon on the beautiful Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot.
Set at the foot of Box Hill near Dorking in the Surrey Hills AONB, Juniper Hall is surrounded by stunning scenery and countryside. It has a rich history. During World War II the house was occupied by the Canadian army in the build up to the Normandy landings. The Centre is close to stunning woodlands, rivers and grasslands and is just an hour from Brighton and the Sussex coast.
Performing opportunities: Perform at bandstands in Godalming, Farnham or Kingston Upon Thames.
Excursions programme: Walk Dorking’s Deepdene Trail; explore the woodland, heathland and farmland trails at Leith Hill and visit Leith Hill Place; see the award-winning 18th century Painshill landscape garden in Cobham; or visit the 18th century Hatchlands Park.
The most pleasant times of year to come to Europe are May to September, therefore you may wish to consider this when planning your tour. Summer temperatures across Europe range from 18-35 degrees Celsius. European cities in winter can also offer many interesting cultural experiences that you may enjoy.
We accept any group as long as they are used to performing together as an ensemble, even if only to their fellow students and parents. We always ask for a recent recording of your group and we have range of venues on offer that will welcome beginner groups as well as experienced ensembles.
Travelling by coach is the most economical and flexible way to tour. Be collected from your meeting point and arrive at your destination in comfort on air-conditioned, high specification coaches. Enjoy the freedom of your own vehicle whilst on tour and travel in comfort with reclining seats and toilet. More and more groups choose to fly. We can arrange your flights from your local airport as well as from London. Once you have arrived at your destination, we can provide transfers to your accommodation and local coach hire throughout your music tour.
