‘Students learned about science, history, and culture, and had a fantastic time doing it!'

This is the verdict of a science teacher from an American School in Kazakhstan whose students had a wonderful eight-day science and history to Belgium.

The group spent several days visiting the famous Eurospace Space Centre for a variety of activities, before travelling around the country, visiting many places of historical and social interest.

The students had a WW1 guided visit in Peace Village and went to Ypres where they visited the In Flanders Fields Museum, the allied cemeteries and the Passchendaele Memorial Museum. They also went to watch The Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate.

Tam, their party leader commented: “Everything was very engaging for students and age-appropriate as well as educational. In future years when they do study space science and World War I, they would have a very rich personal experience from which to draw upon.

“Students were learning about science and history from a very “live, personal, and real” setting. Students’ experiences enriched their understanding of space science and World War I.

“Most students would probably say that the Space Camp was a favourite. The Walk of Remembrance also made a great impression on them — Simon did a fantastic job putting the soldiers’ experience into context for the students.

“I loved the bike tour of the country side around Bruges—it was very beautiful, fun and also educational. Our guide was a wonderful host who had just the right amount of humour, cultural insights, and fascinating facts about the area for the students.

“I think the whole trip was very well organized, and the activities were appropriate for the students. There was a nice variety of activities that were engaging and educational.

“Students learned about science, history, culture, and had a fantastic time doing it. One of the best field trips I’ve ever chaperoned!
