Sarah Whitbread, Party leader, London
The Schneebärenland (Polar Bear County) encompasses five distinct winter sports areas in the snowy mountains of Upper Styria. One ski pass covers a total of 120 km of ski runs, all within easy reach of our selected accommodation based near the Riesneralm mountain. Our groups start their week on the Riesneralm mountain where 30 km of wide-ranging runs are waiting for them. The Riesneralm has recently invested heavily in their lift and snow-making systems, making this the perfect area for school ski trip groups. A dedicated beginners’ zone means that beginners can find their ski legs in peace, while confident skiers can embrace the new Cross-Ride-Track and Freeride Park. All our student ski trip groups have free-of-charge access to a special training area where they can measure their speed and film themselves. During the week, the ski school will take you to Kaiserau, Loser, Tauplitz or the Planneralm to get more kilometres under your skis.
View piste mapOur student ski trip groups are based in the village of Aigen with plenty of evening activities on their doorstep. Enjoy ice-skating and ice-curling on the Putterer Lake or relax with a hot chocolate in the Loch Ness café. For a more unusual evening, arrange a visit to the local husky dog camp or enjoy a torchlit snow-shoe walk on the Planneralm. Bowling and swimming are a short drive away.
We are able to offer you an optional very cost-effective pre-paid excursion programme to suit you. The choice typically includes swimming, bowling, watching a local ice hockey match, a Tirolean evening, ice curling in addition to in-house activities. Full details and prices will be given with your quotation. Please note that snow based activities may not be available at Easter.
You should book your trip between 12-18 months in advance. This will give you the best choice of accommodation and allow parents plenty of time to save up, but we always welcome late bookings.
Snow Security: Snow cannons operate in all our resorts to assist satisfactory snow cover on the lower slopes. This means in many Austrian resorts, skiing is now possible from early December until late April making Easter skiing an attractive proposition.
Snow Guarantee: We will pay up to £30 per person per day towards additional costs of transport and lift pass if all the lifts in your resort are closed due to adverse weather conditions or lack of snow.
