The Spanish Pyrenees are a well-kept skiing secret, which we believe you will love once you’ve tried them. We have selected the excellent resort of Formigal, on the border with France, in the heart of the beautiful Tena valley for school ski groups. With a 137 km ski area extending into four valleys, Formigal is Spain’s largest ski area and boasts a superbly-designed ski area. At the top of each lift, take your pick from a choice of varied ability runs all leading to the same point – a brilliant set-up for mixed ability groups. The top station is over 2,700 metres high and its situation in the middle of the mountain range is ideal for snowfall up to Easter.
Beginners start in the Sextas or Anayet valleys for lessons on the nice gentle slopes near the bases. Lessons with the excellent Spanish Ski School will soon get you moving and ready for more. Intermediate skiers can travel from one valley to another and try different runs, such as Sarrios and Lanuza in the Izas zone, where you will find great snow and challenging pistes. The truly advanced can attempt some of the free-ride areas, which offer some real off-piste challenges. The ski centre in Formigal is right by the main lifts making it ideally placed for your advanced skiers to head off during their lessons but meet up with everyone for lunch.
View piste mapA modern and well-planned ski village, Formigal is ideal for school ski groups. There is an alcohol-free and controlled disco early in the evening, specifically for school groups. Shops, cafes and tapas bars provide an opportunity to encounter genuinely friendly locals and brush up on your Spanish! There is a swimming pool with spa facilities 20 minutes away in Sallent de Gallego, while the historical town of Jaca is a 45-minute drive down the valley for excursions, swimming or ice-skating.
Snow Security: Snow cannons operate in all our resorts to assist satisfactory snow cover on the lower slopes. This means in many Austrian resorts, skiing is now possible from early December until late April making Easter skiing an attractive proposition.
Snow Guarantee: We will pay up to £30 per person per day towards additional costs of transport and lift pass if all the lifts in your resort are closed due to adverse weather conditions or lack of snow.
Our standard packages include a packed lunch, but we can organise a hot mountain lunch at a supplement.
We are able to offer you an optional very cost-effective pre-paid excursion programme to suit you. The choice typically includes swimming, bowling, watching a local ice hockey match, a Tirolean evening, ice curling in addition to in-house activities. Full details and prices will be given with your quotation. Please note that snow based activities may not be available at Easter.
