Earlier this month we took a party of choir directors to Riga to gauge its suitability as a music touring destination.
Our familiarisation trip was a great success, many of the music leaders who went were pleasantly surprised and intrigued by this unusual touring base.
On their trip, they visited several of the city’s historic churches as possible venues for their ensemble’s performances including St. John’s, St Peter’s, Riga Dome Cathedral and the Sigulda Lutheran Church.
They also saw several possible hotels where their group could stay. To give them an idea of the kind of excursions their members would enjoy, they took a back stage tour of Riga Opera and visited the Gauja National Park.
Here’s what Jill, Music Secretary from a choral society in London had to say of the experience:
“I had no idea about Riga. It has opened my mind up to it. I found it a very pleasant and interesting place to visit.
“I was interested to see if Riga would be suitable for our concert tours and also interested to meet members of the Club Europe team. They were very helpful, engaging and encouraging. It was really nice to form a personal connection with Jonathan and Tom which I think will support the ease of planning future trips.
“I enjoyed the itinerary, we managed to fit in a wide variety of activities. I was really impressed with the food. I had an idea that Latvian food would not be great (particularly being a vegetarian). I thought the trip was very well organised. I really enjoyed the boat trip and the trip to the Opera House.
“Thanks you very much, it was a great trip.”
