We’re delighted to have formed a partnership with Keys of Change, a charity that promotes music education and offers access to live classical music performances to advance the lives of young people around the world.
Keys of Change was founded in 2011 by inspirational concert pianist Panos Karan, who has changed the course of his life and career by choosing to perform and bring music to many deprived or suffering areas of the world; he is committed to the belief that playing music can make the world a better place and change lives.
Keys of Change has brought classical music to remote areas of the Amazon basin, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Kolkata and the tsunami-ravaged Fukushima area in Japan, as well as in Greece, Russia and London.
The FYS was created by Panos in 2012; many of its members are survivors of the tsunami. The ensemble demonstrates how important music can be as an agent of healing in times of great emotional upheaval and uncertainty. First formed in response to requests of young middle-school students in Fukushima to come together for a performance at the Fukushima Ongakudo Hall, the FYS has now toured in London twice, performing to packed audiences in Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. Last year they celebrated their tenth anniversary.
