We’re delighted to have formed a partnership with Keys of Change, a charity that promotes music education and offers access to live classical music performances to advance the lives of young people around the world.
Keys of Change was founded in 2011 by inspirational concert pianist Panos Karan, who has changed the course of his life and career by choosing to perform and bring music to many deprived or suffering areas of the world; he is committed to the belief that playing music can make the world a better place and change lives.
Keys of Change has brought classical music to remote areas of the Amazon basin, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Kolkata and the tsunami-ravaged Fukushima area in Japan, as well as in Greece, Russia and London.
The FYS was created by Panos in 2012; many of its members are survivors o f the tsunami. The ensemble demonstrates how important music can be as an agent of healing in times of great emotional upheaval and uncertainty. First formed in response to requests of young middle-school students in Fukushima to come together for a performance at the Fukushima Ongakudo Hall, the FYS has now toured in London twice, performing to packed audiences in Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. Next year they will celebrate their tenth anniversary.
1. If you are organising a fundraising event at your school and/or looking for a charity to support, please consider Keys of Change. Contact us to find out more.
2. If you're performing a UK concert or a concert on tour, consider asking the audience for a small contribution to help raise funds for Keys of Change. Contact us to find out more.
3. Let us arrange a visit from Panos to your school. This could include a masterclass for your school’s ensemble and a conducting workshop for your music leader and possibly lead to a joint concert with Panos either at your school or at a high profile venue. Contact us to find out more.
4. Get involved with the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta. Perform with them in Japan while on a tour of a lifetime or here in the UK, next time they visit. Let us know if you'd be interested in making contact with this inspirational group, even if only for a virtual exchange online! Or if you’d like to fundraise for this group specifically, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us to find out more.
