Suffolk is a superb destination for a school music trip. Composer Benjamin Britten lived in Lowestoft, Snape and Aldeburgh, bequeathing a musical legacy to the area. Our young ensembles enjoy the stillness and peace of the River Alde estuary and coastline, as well as visits to idyllic nearby villages and towns, including Bury St. Edmunds and Lavenham. The arts complex Snape Maltings offers a range of projects and workshops for Suffolk schools.
Suffolk welcomes the Aldeburgh Festival, founded by Britten in 1948, and the Bury St. Edmund Festival; there is so much interest in attending concerts. There are a variety of venues to choose from in peaceful surroundings. Where possible, we will try to arrange for you to perform in local schools.
Day 1
En route to accommodation visit the pretty village of Lavenham with its colourful, timber-framed houses. Most notably, see De Vere House, which was used as the fictional birthplace of Harry Potter!
Day 2
Excursion to the coastal town of Aldeburgh. Explore the town and enjoy a walk along the beach. Afternoon concert in Aldeburgh. Continue to the renowned arts complex Snape Maltings. Explore its galleries and the surrounding nature with expanses of reeds and water. Dinner and see a concert at the Snape Maltings (subject to tour dates).
Day 3
Visit Bury St. Edmunds, perform a concert before returning home.
Composer Benjamin Britten lived here. There are a range of exhibitions.
One of the world’s leading centres of music with concerts, galleries, shops and cafés.
Stately home in the village of Long Melford. Ancestral seat of the Parker Baronets. Now a National Trust property.
A 12th-century fortress.
The region has a range of accommodation to suit all budgets, including a range of hotels and a YHA hostel. They are all placed in great locations, giving easy access to venues and excursion possibilities. We will arrange for you stay in the accommodation that best suits your needs.
Once your tour is booked, it is safely in our hands. We will only ask for you assistance in understanding your concert requirements and you will be responsible for ensuring that the dates on our checklist are adhered to. Until your departure, you simply need to prepare your musicians musically and compile the tour repertoire.
Travelling by coach is the most economical and flexible way to tour. Be collected from your meeting point and arrive at your destination in comfort on air-conditioned, high specification coaches. Enjoy the freedom of your own vehicle whilst on tour and travel in comfort with reclining seats and toilet. More and more groups choose to fly. We can arrange your flights from your local airport as well as from London. Once you have arrived at your destination, we can provide transfers to your accommodation and local coach hire throughout your music tour.
We have drawn up a comprehensive step-by-step Guide to planning a school music tour for first time tourers. This covers all aspects of tour planning from budgeting and fundraising, to choosing the right destination, accommodation and performing venues for your ensemble. Click here to read our Guide.
