Language students travel to Rhineland for student tour

  • Jun 01, 2015

“The highlight of the tour for me was the enthusiasm of the students and how much they enjoyed the trip – they still talk about it now,” says Carol Head of German on her college’s recent language tour to Germany.

“Touring gives students an insight into a country and its culture. The students learnt vocab without even realising it – a great way to learn a language. Now they seem more willing to try vocab out and especially use some of the vocab they learnt there. They like to try and include this in their work.”

The Hertfordshire language group enjoyed five days in the Rhineland and their tour included a backstage tour of the ring°werk, the Nürburgring’s large indoor motor racing theme park, a tour of Cochem Castle, visits to a chocolate museum, Cologne Cathedral and the Phantasialand themepark as well a chance to do some swimming and bowling.

Carol continued: “I think the students enjoyed all aspects of the trip as it was full of activities (thanks to your organising) and there was never time to be bored. I think they probably loved Phantasialand the most!”

She summed up: “The benefits were not just experiencing Germany, its language and its culture but also being with other students and getting along with others and enabling everyone to have a great trip. Many new friendships were made.”
