London provides endless possibilities to explore and engage in ICT in its living working form: visit the Apple Store to learn more about using apps, creating movies, music and presentations, and take a trip to Bletchley Park for a fascinating behind the scenes look at the technology and thinking behind the famous Enigma Codebreaking in World War II.

  • National Museum of Computing: This fascinating place has an amazing range of exhibits, including ones on code breaking, calculators and slide rules, analogue computing – digital and analogue data differences, WITCH computer (the oldest working computer), large systems  - second generation computers, women in computing, punched card, software gallery and personal computing.
  • Bletchley Park: Visit Hut 3 & 6, where the Enigma codebreaking took place, Block B which houses the Alan Turing gallery in which you can see the world’s only fully operational Bombe ‘computer’ used to break enigma and Hut 8 for interactive displays. There are also WW2 garages and vehicles and a ‘Women in WW2’ display in Hut 11.
  • Sky Skills Studio, West London: A behind scenes tour of Sky Studios; create your own TV report, use the cutting edge technology, screen your students’ own videos.
  • Thorpe Park: One of the UK’s leading theme parks, which offers a range of curriculum-based programmes and workshops eg. Learn how the park is run using computers. The programmes feature a 45-minute talk and a Q&A for students.
  • Coca-Cola London Eye: Take a flight on London’s premier tourist attraction and enjoy a 3D movie.
  • Apple Store Field Trip: Teach your students how to use apps, create movies, music and presentations using apple software and hardware.

Where to stay

Our students stay at the Ibis Styles London Excel in the Docklands area, which has excellent transport links and is close to the O2, ExCeL, Canary Wharf, the Olympic Park and Westfield Stratford.

Sample Itinerary

Day One

Travel to London. Evening at a West End show.

Day Two

Spend a day at Bletchley Park, famous for the Engima Codebreaking in World War II and the National Museum of Computing. Return to your hotel for evening dinner.

Day Three

Spend a day at Thorpe Park, taking part in one of the ICT-education programmes.

Day Four

Morning visit to the Sky Skills Studio. Afternoon visit to the Apple Store for a Field Trip.

Day Five

Morning’s shopping on Oxford Street followed by journey back to school.
