Pupils immersed in the German culture

A student travel tour to the Black Forest has helped improve the language skills and confidence of students from a school in Bristol.

“Pupils were immersed in the German culture and were encouraged to look for vocabulary everywhere we went,” Rachel, their Modern Language teacher commented. “They held surveys with native German speakers to improve their confidence and language skills. It was also good that the walking tour [of Baden-Baden] was delivered in English and German, allowing them to learn lots of new words. The pupils were also encouraged to only speak German to hostel staff.”

During their week, the group spent time exploring the sunny university town of Frieburg with its famous canals and Minster and took a walking tour of Baden-Baden and visited its castle. They also enjoyed some tobogganing and a trip to Europe Park Rust theme park.

“The accommodation was very good,” Rachel added, “with very friendly staff and in a great location with the pool right next door.

“But the highlight for me was seeing the excitement on pupils’ faces when they had used some German and been understood.”
