An American School from Kazakhstan is enjoying a wonderful eight-day student travel tour to Belgium.

The group spent several days visiting the famous Eurospace Space Centre for a variety of activities, after which they travelled around the country, visiting many places of historical and social interest as well as finding time to soak up the culture of this unique, diverse country.

Their activities included:
• A WW1 guided visit in Peace Village entitled March of the Phoenix, A Walk of Remembrance: their interactive torch lit walk took them over old church paths to a number of silent witnesses of the Great War.

• A visit to Bruges: one of Europe’s loveliest cities where they visited the famous Belfry Tower and a chocolaterie and enjoyed a canal cruise as well as a bike tour. Other places they saw here included the Church of Our Lady, the Sint Salvador Cathedral Bruges, the De Halve Maan Brewery and the Diamond and Memling Museums.

• A visit to Ypres. Activities in this city now called the “city of peace” included visits to: the In Flanders Fields Museum; the allied cemeteries of which there are over 160 where 11,956 soldiers are buried; the German cemeteries such as Langemark; St George’s Memorial Church; Sanctuary Wood (Hill 62) with its authentic trenches and museum; Passchendaele Memorial Museum; and they went to watch The Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate.
