Stunning Lake Constance, or as the Germans call it “Bodensee”, is a truly beautiful base for a school music tour. Set on the borders of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, it is a summer destination for sailing, windsurfing and swimming and has 260km of cycling paths all around its shores. The Lake attracts many tourists who enjoy relaxing to an evening outdoor concert performed by our young music ensembles. There is no shortage of historical sites and gardens to visit and you can also visit the museum where the Zeppelin airship was invented.
Day 1
Arrive at youth hostel with view over Lake Constance.
Day 2
Morning: Visit the city of Friedrichshafen where the promenade is one of the longest and most beautiful on Lake Constance. Visit the Zeppelin Museum
Afternoon: Guided visit of Friedrichshafen.
Evening: Enjoy the sunset and get ready for your concert.
Day 3
Morning: Visit the Pile Dwelling Museum in Unteruhldingen, an archaeological open-air museum on Lake Constance, consisting of reconstructions of stilt houses or lake dwellings from the Neolithic Stone Age and Bronze Age.
Afternoon: Enjoy a boat tour from Unteruhldingen to Hagnau on Lake Constance. In the evening, perform an outdoor concert in an incredible setting at the lake.
Day 4
Morning: Time to swim in one of the life guarded stretches at Lake Constance! In the afternoon, visit Schaffhausen, a Swiss town on the upper Rhine River, in a wine-growing area near the German border. Its traffic-free Old Town is considered one of the prettiest in Switzerland. Baroque buildings dot the medieval old town. The High Gothic church of St. Johann is known for its acoustics. Monastery Allerheiligen includes a Romanesque cathedral.
Time to visit the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Switzerland and Europe. Enjoy a guided tour of the 16th-century Munot Fortress that dominated the town.
In the evening perform an outdoor concert in another beautiful coastal town.
Day 5
Depart for home.
At the recently renovated vast Martin-Buber Youth Hostel in Überlingen you will enjoy the most beautiful view over the lake. The town has a Southern feel of the Mediterranean with the sunshine, the water, the ice cream parlours, palm trees and street musicians. The Alps tower above the longest promenade on Lake Constance. Groups can rehearse in one of the large meeting rooms and will be accommodated in modern 4-6 bedded rooms.
If you prefer staying in a bigger town, the Graf-Zeppelin Youth Hostel in Friedrichshafen will be ideal. It is situated just 50 meters away from Lake Constance where the cycle path runs right next to it. You are in the town of the Zeppelin!
We work hard to generate excellent attendance at each concert, as we understand that an appreciative audience makes all the difference. We produce eye-catching posters and handbills, which are displayed and distributed in the environs of your concerts. We also advertise your concerts in online and hard copy local What’s On Guides as well as newspapers, by way of press releases. In addition, we invite local dignitaries, music societies and music students to your concerts. Last but not least, we provide you with posters for your concerts, which will be displayed in your coach and placed on your Club Europe poster board at your venue by your tour manager before each concert.
We have drawn up a comprehensive step-by-step Guide to planning a school music tour for first time tourers. This covers all aspects of tour planning from budgeting and fundraising, to choosing the right destination, accommodation and performing venues for your ensemble. Click here to read our Guide.
