Tucked away between Whitby and Scarborough, Robin Hood’s Bay is a beautiful undiscovered part of Yorkshire’s coastline. A historic fishing village bursting with tales of pirates, smugglers and dinosaurs, this is the perfect destination for school music tour groups.
Wander through the Bay’s twisting cobbled streets, and you’ll easily be able to imagine all the sailors, fishermen, smugglers and press gangs that walked these streets hundreds of years ago.
Our ensembles will stay at the uniquely located beach-side YHA, where they can enjoy fossil hunting, pirate parties and walks along the coast. Venues range from the local village hall to bandstands in the picturesque former fishing village of Filey to a variety of venues in nearby Scarborough and Whitby.
This area has something for everybody. Perform in the nearby village Hall at Fylingdales, in a traditional chapel, at the parish church in the Bay or outside in the dock. Or travel to nearby Filey, Scarborough or Whitby for concerts in bandstands, churches, concert halls, pavilions or retirement homes.

This offers a range of outdoor activities from paintballing to a Laser combat centre. Based in the atmospheric Dalby Forest between Pickering and Scarborough.
Your experience begins by being met at the station by a ‘Billeting Officer’ who will check students for labels and gas mask boxes before boarding the train. (We will send you instructions on how to make gas mask boxes prior to your visit.) Once on board students will be shown gas masks and gas rattles, learn about air raids and listen to reminiscence of real life evacuees from Middlesbrough evacuated during WWII on this train route. Your students will take part in the activity, “Who will you be housed with?”, before arriving at their destination.
With its unique beach-side location, tucked away in an old smuggler’s cove, a stay at the YHA at Boggle Hole is a real treat for our young groups. The lovely Old Mill has treasure trails, stunning sea views and lots of wooded grounds for exploring. There’s a well-stocked Quarterdeck café, and a woodburning stove for when the weather is cooler. Uncover tales of pirates and the history of the little fishing villages nearby. Walk along the dinosaur coast, go fossil hunting or spend time on the beach. Evening activities range from star gazing to pirate parties.
You should book your tour between 8-18 months in advance. This will give us time to find the best possible venues for your tour and you will have ample time for fundraising should you need to do so.
We understand that school music tours are considered as a reward or holiday for many groups and that where you stay is really important. All hotels and hostels we use are suitable for young music ensembles with many offering rehearsal space and instrument storage. Rooms are normally multi-bedded for students and twins, sometimes singles, for adults. Generally, rooms are en-suite.
The most pleasant times of year to come to Europe are May to September, therefore you may wish to consider this when planning your tour. Summer temperatures across Europe range from 18-35 degrees Celsius. European cities in winter can also offer many interesting cultural experiences that you may enjoy.
