One of the most famous and astounding discoveries of modern archaeology. Between 1976-81 archaeologists from York Archaeological Trust, revealed the houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-age city of Jorvik as it stood nearly 1,000 years ago. The Centre is built on the very site where these excavations took place, so you take a journey through the reconstruction of Viking-age streets and experience life as it would have been in 10th century York.
Through its immersive displays, experience the sights, sounds and smells of life on the Home Front and the Front Line, all set in the buildings and grounds of an original World War 2 Prisoner of War Camp.
The York Dungeon brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages and scenes. The Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial is based on a former RAF airbase which was home to thousands of airmen from allied nations during the second world war. Over two hours you will discover Yorkshire’s greatest invention – the very first manned flying machine – and other treasures of aviation.
This experience begins by being met at the station by a ‘Billeting Officer’ who will check students for labels and gas mask boxes before boarding the train. Your students will take part in the activity, “Who will you be housed with?”, before arriving at their destination.
