Southwark Children’s Brass Band (SCBB), winners of our Proud to Perform award, are giving a concert in Dulwich Park this Sunday.
The young band from South London are going on tour for the first time in July to Paris. Their tour – which for most of the members will be their first time abroad – is being fully funded by us. SCBB beat off fierce competition for the award from many other worthy applicants. For more on our Proud to Perform award, click here.
On Sunday, the band will play a repertoire that will include some of the pieces they will perform at Disneyland Paris, one of the highlights of their tour. This will include Pharrell Williams’ Happy, Rock Around the Clock and Hello Dolly.
Patty Harper, the band’s Trustee said: “Our young band members are practising like mad for the Paris tour. The sense of excitement is palpable every Saturday morning when they all rehearse together. In the meantime we are also looking forward to our return to the Dulwich Festival in Dulwich Park on the 17th May and at Nunhead Cemetery Open Day on Saturday 16th May.”
One of the band’s patrons, the famous trumpeter Alison Balsom also commented: “I’m uplifted and dazzled at what the young people in the brass band, and the staff are achieving – the sky really is the limit when young minds meet great music.”
SCBB’s concert is this Sunday at 2.30 on the stage beside the café in Dulwich Park. See you there!
