Lyon is the capital city of France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The city's centre reflects 2,000 years of history and makes a fascinating base for a language trip. There are diverse sites to explore from the city's spectacular Traboules, connecting Vieux Lyon and La Croix-Rousse hill, to the Musée Lumière, the birthplace of cinematography.
Day 1
Your flight arrives at lunchtime into Lyon. In the afternoon explore Lyon's Roman history at the Gallo-Roman Museum and time to settle in. Dinner in the hostel.
Day 2
Morning class at a French Language school. Enjoy a guided tour of Lyon's spectacular Traboules, the city's underground passageways rich in history, followed by a silk weaving workshop. There is some free time for shopping and to practice your French language skills. Dinner in the hostel and a quiz evening.
Day 3
In the morning explore Lyon by an open bus tour, followed by a visit to Lyon's Musée de la Résistance, it chronicles the French Resistance as well as Jewish deportation in World War II. Explore the city's peaceful Parc de la Tête d'Or and its zoo. Dinner in the hostel. Enjoy an evening of bowling!
Day 4
Morning visit to the fascinating Musée Cinéma et Miniature. In the afternoon, visit the Musée Lumière devoted to Auguste and Louis Lumière, inventors of cinematography. Dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 5
Some free time for final exploration before your lunchtime flight.

The Musée Lumière in Lyon is a museum and institute dedicated to the life and works of the Lumière Brothers,and their contributions to the art of cinema. The museum is thought to be situated on the spot where the art of cinematography was born. Explore projections, interactive features, documents, artifacts, ephemera, and information about the brothers and their works.
See the history of cinema through an immersive experience and admire original costumes from your favourite films. The artist Dan Ohlmanna, pioneer in Miniature Art, also offers you a journey through a collection of more than a hundred masterpieces created by different miniaturist artists.
Our hostel is in the heart of the old town and is just a 10-minute walk from the city's must-see monuments. The hostel's large capacity and classrooms makes it an ideal venue for school groups. The highlight is the beautiful terrace offering spectacular views across the city.
Yes, there are many advantages to this. One is that greater numbers sign up which means a lower tour price per student. Another is that a diverse (two-subject) itinerary can broaden the horizons of both ‘groups’ though, of course, we can create separate agendas for each if preferred.
