Explore how we can work towards a more sustainable future at the Eden Project and learn about scientific endeavour at Goonhilly Earth Station.
Our Science trip to Cornwall sees groups stay at the heart of the educational charity the Eden Project, which means students benefit from unlimited access to this fantastic site. In addition to exploration of the iconic Biomes and the aerial walk through treetops of the world’s largest rainforest in captivity, there is a plethora of innovative, focused and curriculum-linked workshops. These are facilitated by the Eden Project’s Education team and are available from Foundation Stage up to A Level. Just a few examples of workshops include ‘Carbon storage in tropical rainforests’ (Key stage 5), ‘Photosynthesis – life support’ (Key stage 3 and 4), ‘Sustainable Attainable’(Key stage 3 and 4), and ‘Biodiversity, Bees and Me’ (Key stage 3). The fieldwork and investigations are developed in partnership with scientists.
Another highlight of the trip is a visit to Goonhilly Earth Station on the Lizard peninsula. It is renowned for being one of the three earth stations involved in the first trans-Atlantic TV transmission in 1962. Now the station’s aim is to create a multi-faceted space hub and it is forging the way in many commercial and scientific endeavours.
Cornwall has many other exciting, cultural visits to offer; a trip to this beautiful area will leave students invigorated and inspired.
